CUSTOMS AND EXCISE

SARS’s Customs division plays an integral role in facilitating the movement of goods and people entering or exiting the borders of the Republic.

The Excise division facilitates the levying of duties on certain locally manufactured goods as well as on their imported equivalents.

  • 8 August 2014 - New Cheque Payment Rules

  • 28 July 2014 - Ad Hoc payment facility on eFiling is no longer available for Customs and Excise clients
    Customs and Excise clients who have previously made payments on eFiling via the 'Additional Payments > Create Additional Payments' section in the left hand menu are no longer be able to do so from Saturday, 26 July 2014.

    Only clients who have their own Customs/Excise reference number and their own financial accounts can make payments to SARS directly. Customs clients can now make payments via their Customs eAccount and Excise clients can use their Excise eAccount or Excise filing payment functionality on eFiling.

    If a Customs client does not have their own eAccount functionality on eFiling, they can make payment via bank EFT or at a Customs/Excise branch.
